EYELID DROP
What is eyelid drooping?
The eyes are the most noticeable organ in the face, so problems affecting the eyes often worry people in terms of health and aesthetics. One of the most common problems we encounter is Eye Ptosis, which is the drooping of one or both upper eyelids. Usually, when the eye is looked at from the front, the area above the pupil is covered by approximately 1-2 mm eyelids, but if its dimensions are larger than this and the eyelids cover approximately 5-4 mm or prevent vision, this indicates eyelid droop. Eye droop is a common genetic disease, more common in newborns, the elderly, or those who have suffered serious trauma after injury or brain damage. Eyelid Droop (Ptosis), seen in newborns, occurs as a result of eyelid muscle developmental disorder, while Eyelid Droop (Ptosis), which occurs with aging, occurs as a result of muscle elasticity loss.
Causes of drooping eyelids:
-
The most common causes of eye ptosis are congenital eyelid drooping, which occurs as a result of the underdevelopment of the muscles that lift the upper eyelid towards the eye.
-
The second common cause of eyelid drooping is the loss of elasticity of the levator eyelid muscle with aging, and the muscle's inability to function as it used to, causing the upper eyelid to droop downward and the visual field to narrow.
-
Another cause of drooping eyelids is nerve damage, in which case it is called Horner syndrome. Horner syndrome This syndrome, which is seen around the face and eyes, is caused by trauma that can affect the nervous system and muscles. Drooping eyelids can also occur as a result of chronic diseases such as diabetes.
What is the treatment like?
In order to determine the treatment of Eye Ptosis, it is necessary to first look at the factors that cause this problem. If Eye Ptosis occurs as a result of a traumatic brain injury or spinal cord injury or a chronic disease such as diabetes or if it occurs as a result of a stroke, the current condition should first be treated and controlled by a doctor. Therefore, we should first perform detailed tests to investigate the causes of the Eye Ptosis problem and perform detailed eye tests and record this in the patient's clinical history.
In cases of Eye Ptosis that occur due to congenital genetic reasons or the failure of the levator muscle in the eyelid to grow or the loss of elasticity of the levator muscle due to aging, the problem can be treated with surgical methods by intervening in the muscle tissue and the Eye Ptosis problem can be eliminated. Eye Ptosis surgery is performed under local anesthesia and the patient can only allocate one day for the surgery, then return home and the patient is invited for an examination the next day.
